Monsoon Fury: Marathwada's Tragic Toll in Lightning Strikes
The Marathwada region in Maharashtra suffered significant losses during this year’s monsoon, with 64 rain-related fatalities. Most deaths were attributed to lightning strikes, totaling 38. Latur reported the highest number of casualties, with 12 deaths. To combat this, numerous lightning arresters have been installed, primarily in Beed and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.

The Marathwada region in Maharashtra witnessed a devastating monsoon season, resulting in the deaths of 64 individuals due to rain-related incidents. Officials stated that 38 of these deaths were caused by lightning strikes.
The affected districts include Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, Beed, Parbhani, Latur, Nanded, Osmanabad, and Hingoli. Latur reported the highest fatality count among these districts, with 12 deaths being recorded during the period from June 1 to October 4, as per the revenue department's report.
Alongside human casualties, the region experienced significant livestock losses, with 1,595 animals dying. The authorities have responded by installing 407 lightning arresters across the region to prevent further tragedies, with the majority placed in Beed and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
