Residents of Odisha's Kendrapara district are hastily evacuating to relief camps, responding to urgent government advice amidst a brewing cyclone threat.
Since Thursday morning, heavy rain and strong winds have affected coastal villages, with a severe storm predicted to make landfall early Friday between Bhitarkanika National Park and Dhamra Port, bringing wind speeds of up to 120 kmph, as per the Met Department.
Officials express greater concern over the anticipated tidal surge, which could harm seaside communities. Evacuations are nearly complete, with shelter centers prepared with essential supplies, and locals fear the sea's impact will be more damaging than the cyclone itself.
