Construction Sites Halted Amid Air Pollution Alert in Mumbai

Construction projects in Mumbai's Byculla and Borivali East are facing suspension following a directive issued due to alarming Air Quality Index (AQI) levels exceeding 200. Brihanmumbai Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani stated that work at both private and government sites will be stopped until air quality improves.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani emphasized that those failing to adhere to the directive will face penalties under the Maharashtra Regional Town Planning Act, alongside police action. Currently, no digging permissions will be issued unless AQI is brought back to safe levels, he reiterated.

Maharashtra Pollution Control Board has instructed RMC plants in and around Mumbai to cover their operations to prevent further pollution. With over 500 plants contributing to air quality decline, local authorities urge prompt action as AQI levels indicate heightened health risks, reaching 170 in Byculla.
