A Eurasian Griffon vulture rescued by a wildlife NGO in Mumbai has been successfully released into its natural habitat, a notable conservation milestone in the city.
The bird was discovered unconscious, dehydrated, and injured before being rescued by the Resqink Association for Wildlife Welfare (RAWW), according to Pawan Sharma, the NGO’s founder-president.
After receiving treatment from avian veterinarian Rina Dev and undergoing rehabilitation through a coalition effort led by RAWW, Ashwamedh Pratishthan, and the Maharashtra forest department, the vulture returned to the wild. This marks Mumbai's first documented case of such a comprehensive rescue and release of this rare species in decades, noted Avinash Harad of Ashwamedh Pratishthan.
