The Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has reported the collection of over Rs 100 crore in water charges for this year, with plans to intensify efforts to recover outstanding fees, according to an official statement on Tuesday.
The civic body aims to collect Rs 148 crore by the end of March, with Rs 76 crore owed from previous years. In a push to recover dues, TMC has disconnected 9,603 tap connections and seized 2,024 motor pumps. Additionally, 547 pump rooms have been sealed, and notices issued to 9,923 defaulters.
Vinod Pawar, a suburban engineer, noted a notable collection increase of Rs 18 crore from the previous year. Weekly targets have been set to boost collections, with punitive measures for non-compliance. Further actions include potential criminal charges against those illegally reconnecting their water supply. To incentivize public compliance, TMC offers a 100% exemption on administrative charges for domestic water connections.
