Himachal Takes a Giant Leap in Weather Forecasting

Himachal Pradesh Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena has directed officials to establish Doppler Weather Radar Stations in Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti for improved weather forecasting. This technology will help forecast weather accurately to mitigate disaster impacts. Discussions on enhancing communication with HAM radios during emergencies were also conducted.

The Chief Secretary of Himachal Pradesh, Prabodh Saxena, emphasized improving weather forecasting at a recent meeting. He instructed officials in Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti to pinpoint locations for deploying Doppler Weather Radar Stations.

This initiative aims to significantly bolster weather prediction capabilities in the region, especially given the frequent occurrence of adverse weather conditions. The technology is set to accurately predict precipitation and weather severity, aiding in disaster preparedness and ensuring community safety.

Furthermore, the meeting explored utilizing Amateur Radio (HAM) for emergency communications, with proposals to extend HAM radio training to firefighting and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) personnel.
