Meluri: Nagaland's Newest District Opens a New Chapter

Meluri becomes Nagaland's 17th district with an inauguration by CM Neiphiu Rio. Formerly part of Phek district, the region now embarks on a journey of growth and progress. The event saw participation from tribal leaders and highlighted Meluri's rich resources and cultural heritage.

Meluri was declared Nagaland's 17th district in a ceremony led by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio at a public ground. Originally an Additional Deputy Commission headquarters in Phek district, it was elevated to a full-fledged district on November 2, 2024.

The inauguration, organized by Pochury Hoho and the district administration, was attended by ministers, legislators, and tribal leaders. CM Rio unveiled a monolith and a multi-purpose sports complex, emphasizing Meluri's potential for development and its biodiverse and resource-rich environment.

Rio urged unity and cooperation among the tribes and emphasized Meluri's strategic location near Myanmar as a potential trade advantage. He called for active local participation in the region's sustainable progress and signaled government support for developmental projects.
