Controversy Erupts Over Alleged Tree Cutting at Delhi Zoo
The Delhi government's forest department is probing allegations of tree uprooting at the city zoo. Although zoo director Sanjeet Kumar maintains only dead trees were removed, complaints suggest live trees were also affected. The investigation, confirming any unlawful activity, could lead to punitive actions.

Amid allegations swirling around the Delhi Zoo, the forest department has launched an investigation into the reported uprooting of over a hundred trees in the National Zoological Park, as revealed by official sources on Monday.
Recent GPS images captured numerous live and dead trees either uprooted or cut the previous month in the zoo, which is uniquely operated by the central government. Delhi Zoo Director Sanjeet Kumar insists that the actions were limited to dead trees, with live ones only undergoing pruning.
While Kumar describes these measures as routine precautions against potential hazards posed by dangerous trees, the forest department is responding to complaints of illegal tree felling. As required under the Delhi Preservation of Trees Act, unauthorized cutting could prompt notices and appropriate measures if confirmed.
