MSF Halts Operations in Sudan's War-torn Zamzam Camp Amidst Escalating Violence

Medical charity MSF has suspended its activities in Sudan's famine-stricken North Darfur due to intense fighting. The Zamzam camp, housing half a million displaced individuals, faces a humanitarian crisis. MSF's field hospital treated hundreds but lacked essential equipment, highlighting urgent needs amidst ongoing conflict.

Medical charity Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) announced on Monday that it has been compelled to halt its operations in North Darfur's Zamzam camp due to escalating violence in the region.

The humanitarian organization was one of the few still active in the besieged camp, which shelters approximately 500,000 individuals displaced by Sudan's ongoing civil war. MSF's field hospital has been providing critical medical services, including treating injuries from recent paramilitary attacks and aiding malnourished children.

In a statement, MSF highlighted severe challenges including dangerous proximity to conflict, obstructed supply lines, and staffing difficulties, resulting in their decision to suspend all operations, including those at their field hospital. MSF's Head of Mission, Yahya Kalilah, stressed the dire humanitarian situation as the war devastates the region.
