The Chandni Chowk beautification project, initially valued at Rs 99 crore, has come under fire for its alleged failure, as claimed by the Chandni Chowk Nagrik Manch on Tuesday. The forum blames the lack of proper planning and absence of a sustainable maintenance strategy as key reasons for the project's woes.
Highlighting the deteriorating state of the historic market, the forum has reached out directly to key figures such as the Delhi Mayor and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi commissioner. They have also approached senior political leaders, urging them to take swift action to address these concerns.
In a letter to Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, the BJP spokesperson and forum general secretary, Praveen Shankar Kapoor, pointed fingers at the elected representatives from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for disregarding civic responsibilities. He accused them of turning a blind eye to illegal encroachments and inadequate sanitation, a stance allegedly protected by the councillors.
