An explosion at the Sigachi Industries pharmaceutical plant in Pashamylaram has resulted in a tragic loss of life, claiming at least 38 lives and injuring 35 individuals, with nine still unaccounted for. Superintendent of Police Paritosh Pankaj confirmed continued efforts to locate the missing individuals.
The state government has appointed an expert committee to determine the cause and events leading to the disaster. The panel, headed by Dr. B Venkateswar Rao from the CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology, is expected to visit the site and deliver a comprehensive report within a month.
Amid recovery efforts, Sigachi's Managing Director Amit Raj Sinha refuted claims of using old machinery and has pledged a compensatory solatium of Rs 1 crore to the families of the deceased. Debris removal has progressed substantially, and forensic examinations are anticipated to clarify outstanding uncertainties.
