Mizoram Capital Shift Rumors Clarified: An Error in Communication
The Mizoram government has refuted claims about shifting the state capital from Aizawl to Thenzawl, citing a clerical mistake in a communication. The misunderstanding arose from a letter regarding a 'peace city' project in Thenzawl, not a capital shift, as clarified by government and opposition statements.

The Mizoram government has firmly denied allegations of an apparent plan to relocate the state capital from Aizawl to Thenzawl. The misinterpretation stemmed from a letter by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, which mentioned the development of Thenzawl as a 'peace city', not a capital relocation.
The Zoram People's Movement (ZPM)-led government pinpointed a clerical error in the letter that mistakenly conveyed the idea of shifting the capital. Meanwhile, the opposition Mizo National Front (MNF) had accused Chief Minister Lalduhoma of secretly maneuvering for the capital's transfer to Thenzawl.
As the dust settled, it became clear that the government's plans involve enhancing Thenzawl with substantial financial backing, potentially making it a hub for peace and development. The central government's fund allocation of Rs 10 crore underscores the initiative, which has been discussed at high levels, including with PM Narendra Modi.
