Severe Weather Alert: Andhra Pradesh Braces for Intense Rains

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted thunderstorms and heavy rains across Andhra Pradesh from August 8 to 14, with potential strong winds reaching up to 50 km per hour until August 12. Low-pressure conditions in the northwest and central Bay of Bengal may exacerbate weather intensity.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a severe weather alert for Andhra Pradesh, forecasting thunderstorms and torrential rains from August 8 to 14. Parts of the region can expect strong winds reaching speeds of up to 50 km per hour until August 12.

According to an official statement from the Amaravati Meteorological Centre, heavy rainfall is anticipated in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP), and Rayalaseema initially on August 8 and 9. These areas may also experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning through to August 12.

The alert also highlighted the presence of upper air circulation in north interior Karnataka and south coastal Andhra Pradesh, along with a north-south trough extending to north Sri Lanka. This is expected to lead to low-pressure development in the northwest Bay of Bengal around August 13, potentially increasing the severity of the rainfall.
