A low-pressure area has formed over the southeast Bay of Bengal and is projected to intensify into a cyclonic storm by October 27, impacting Odisha and parts of West Bengal with heavy rainfall. The Bhubaneswar meteorological department has been tracking its movement west-northwestward.

Meteorological officials have indicated that the storm could become a depression, followed by a deep depression, before evolving into a cyclonic storm in the southwest and west-central Bay of Bengal. While the exact landfall location is uncertain, Odisha is expected to receive heavy to extremely heavy rainfall from October 27 to 29, with coastal districts hardest hit.

The Odisha government, led by Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, has assured the public that thorough preparations are in place to address potential challenges. Similar weather conditions are anticipated in South Bengal, with thunderstorms forecasted in Kolkata and adjacent areas, and heavy rain predicted for North Bengal districts.
