Harnessing Space Technology for Oceanic Research: A Landmark ISRO-IIT Collaboration

ISRO and IIT Bhubaneswar have entered into a collaboration to advance research on oceanic processes and shoreline dynamics in the western Bay of Bengal. Through a new MoU, they aim to map and analyze nearshore changes from the Sundarbans delta to northern Andhra Pradesh.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bhubaneswar have taken a significant step toward innovative research, signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that underscores their commitment to collaborative scientific endeavors, an official remarked.

The MoU, signed on October 17 between the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC) of ISRO and IIT Bhubaneswar, was officially announced on Friday. This partnership is poised to explore the intricate dynamics of physical and biogeochemical processes and shoreline changes in the western Bay of Bengal.

In its pilot phase, the project will focus on comprehensively mapping and analyzing the nearshore dynamics from the Sundarbans delta stretching to northern Andhra Pradesh, with plans to extend the study to additional coastal regions across India.
