Cyclone Montha Approaches: Tamil Nadu Braces for Impact

Northern Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, is preparing for potential impact as Cyclone Montha nears. Expected to cross between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam, the cyclone may cause heavy rains. The Tamil Nadu government is prepared, with Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin ensuring readiness against expected weather conditions.

Four districts in northern Tamil Nadu, including Chennai, experienced heavy rainfall as Cyclone Montha looms in the Bay of Bengal, approximately 480 km east of Chennai, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre.

The cyclone is moving north-northwest and anticipated to hit between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam near Kakinada in Andhra Pradesh as a severe storm by October 28 evening or night, stated RMC Director B Amudha.

Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin assured the public that the government is prepared for the cyclonic impact, and rainfall is expected to be moderate. However, forecasts suggest 50 to 70mm of rain in North Chennai and Tiruvallur, where readiness efforts are ongoing.
