Delhi Embarks on Innovative Cloud-Seeding Trials for Pollution Control

The Delhi government, in partnership with IIT-Kanpur, initiated its first cloud-seeding trial to combat air pollution in the capital. Using an aircraft, the trial involved releasing compounds to induce rain. Despite challenges with low atmospheric moisture, the government plans additional trials to improve air quality.

In a bid to combat escalating air pollution, the Delhi government has launched its first cloud-seeding trial in collaboration with IIT-Kanpur. The groundbreaking initiative, led by Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, aims to induce artificial rain to improve air quality in the capital.

The trial on Tuesday witnessed an aircraft releasing fire flares from Kanpur, covering several parts of Delhi, including Burari, Karol Bagh, and Mayur Vihar. The procedure, lasting half an hour, is part of an ambitious plan that includes up to ten intended trials.

Despite initial challenges due to low atmospheric moisture, the government remains optimistic about the potential of cloud-seeding. With comprehensive clearances secured from key agencies, including the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, further trials are poised to redefine air quality strategies in Delhi.
