A severe cyclonic storm named 'Montha' is currently advancing over the west-central Bay of Bengal. It is expected to bring high-speed winds and heavy rains as it approaches the Andhra Pradesh coast.
'Montha', which translates to 'fragrant flower' in Thai, is approximately 100 km from Machilipatnam and 180 km from Kakinada, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The cyclone is moving north-northwest at a speed of 10 kmph.
A woman tragically lost her life in Konaseema district due to the cyclone's winds, which have also led to substantial rainfall in several coastal areas. Authorities have canceled and rescheduled trains for safety, while 19 relief camps are operational, housing over 700 people.
