On Tuesday, Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, laid the cornerstone for the Palampur Heliport, a project with an investment of Rs 19.77 crore. This initiative is poised to streamline aerial connectivity, offering reduced fares for helicopter travel between Chandigarh and Shimla by next April.

During the ceremony, Chief Minister Sukhu revealed that the heliport would boast a passenger terminal building, a fire station, and a utility building. He stressed that this development is part of a larger set of plans for the Kangra district, including a Tourism Village in Palampur. However, opposition linked to BJP affiliations has led to legal roadblocks, which the government aims to overcome.

Earlier in the day, Sukhu visited the Gopalpur community health centre, where he engaged with both patients and staff. He emphasized that the state has allocated Rs 3,000 crore to upgrade facilities across medical colleges and hospitals, ensuring residents have access to advanced healthcare services equipped with the latest medical technology.
