Nepal is gearing up for winter with a newly formulated action plan aimed at mitigating risks associated with snowfall and cold waves. This comprehensive strategy, crafted by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) in collaboration with relevant agencies, covers 50 vulnerable districts nationwide.

Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal previously directed the NDRRMA to focus on preparation and risk-reduction efforts, particularly in 29 mountainous and hilly districts, and 21 Terai districts prone to severe cold. The action plan outlines precautionary measures and emergency response strategies specific to regional needs.

For the first time, the government will release a national action plan to tackle potential winter-related losses. With forecasts indicating significant snowfall in the highlands and cold waves in the Terai from mid-November to mid-March, the initiative aims to safeguard affected communities by deploying timely relief and warning systems.
