On Monday, the government informed Parliament about a substantial reduction in farm fire incidents in Punjab and Haryana during the 2025 paddy harvest, with figures showing about a 90 percent drop compared to 2022. Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav mentioned these farm fires as episodic events that exacerbate winter pollution.

In response to queries by Congress MP Charanjit Singh Channi, Yadav mentioned that Delhi recorded its lowest air quality index (AQI) in recent years outside of the 2020 Covid lockdown period. Despite a 20 percent cut in Punjab's farm fires, Channi expressed concerns over Delhi's AQI occasionally exceeding 450.

The minister detailed various pollution sources affecting Delhi-NCR, including vehicular emissions and industrial activities, while outlining government initiatives like providing crop residue management machines and promoting biomass pellets. These efforts are part of broader strategies to combat pollution in the region.
