Delhi continued to grapple with severe air pollution on Saturday, as the capital remained engulfed in a heavy layer of smog, categorizing the air quality as 'very poor'. The average Air Quality Index (AQI) settled at 330 over a 24-hour period, revealing a persistent threat to residents' health.
Data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) indicated that out of 40 monitoring stations, 31 registered air quality in the 'very poor' range, with Nehru Nagar recording the highest AQI of 369. A major contributor to the capital's pollution is transportation, accounting for 14.8% of local emissions.
The India Meteorological Department reported lower than normal temperatures and significant moisture levels, factors exacerbating the smog situation. With predictions of shallow fog on Sunday, residents were advised to remain cautious as the AQI is unlikely to see immediate improvements.
