A tragic fire broke out at the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub in North Goa, claiming 23 lives, including those of three women and several tourists, according to local police. The incident took place at a popular party venue in Arpora village, some 25 km from state capital Panaji.
The deadly blaze, allegedly caused by a cylinder explosion, erupted early Sunday morning, catching over 100 people on the dance floor off guard. Fatima Shaikh, a tourist witness from Hyderabad, reported a frantic scene as people attempted to escape the inferno, with some becoming trapped in the kitchen along with club staff.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced an investigation into whether the nightclub adhered to fire safety protocols, amid claims of building permission violations. The tragedy prompted local authorities to plan a fire safety audit of clubs to prevent such incidents from reoccurring.
