In an alarming incident, a man was fatally attacked by a leopard in the Barakot area of Uttarakhand's Champawat district on Tuesday morning. This marks the area's second leopard-related death in a month, officials confirmed.
Dev Singh Adhikari, 45, was attacked when he stepped out of his house in Dhargada Tok of Churani Gram Panchayat. Villagers, already on edge from a recent attempt on Adhikari's wife's life by a leopard, are now demanding urgent action from the Forest Department to declare the animal a man-eater.
Amid heightened tensions, Champawat District Magistrate Manish Kumar assured that the forest department is taking swift action. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami extended his condolences to the bereaved family and urged officials to ensure safety and support measures for the community.
