A tragic accident claimed the lives of three migrants and left eight injured when their boat capsized on the Sava River in Croatia's eastern region. The unfortunate event took place near Slavonski Brod, close to the Bosnia border, as migrants attempted a perilous crossing in dense fog.
Emergency services, alerted around 5:30 a.m., rushed to the scene with rescue boats. Findings suggest migrants, believed to be fleeing Middle East, Asia, or Africa, were aided by smugglers in their dangerous journey towards Western Europe.
Authorities are investigating the incident, with a Bosnian man suspected of smuggling facing scrutiny. Croatia, part of the EU, mainly sees migrants arriving via Bosnia or Serbia, along the Balkan route from Turkey or Greece.
