The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) plans to allocate Rs 35 crore in its latest budget for microchipping and vaccinating stray dogs, officials disclosed. This strategic move reflects an increasing focus on public safety and animal health in the nation's capital.
A notable portion, Rs 20 crore, will be deployed directly by the MCD, while the rest will partner with NGOs experienced in animal welfare. The goal is to microchip and vaccinate at least 25,000 dogs across Delhi within the next two to three months, officials explained.
Additionally, Rs 60 lakh is allocated for catching and relocating monkeys in Delhi, aiming to reduce human-animal conflicts. Recent efforts have moved over 6,500 monkeys to a designated sanctuary. These initiatives form part of Delhi's broader campaign to control animal populations humanely.
