In a significant boost to urban transit, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta lauded the expansion of the metro network as a step towards improving safety and convenience for women commuters. Speaking at the inauguration led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, she highlighted the government's commitment to addressing civic issues with honesty and transparency.
Prime Minister Modi inaugurated two new metro corridors and laid the foundation for three more, collectively worth Rs 18,300 crore. The expansion includes critical routes like Majlis Park-Maujpur and Deepali Chowk-Majlis Park, which will enhance connectivity across previously underserved areas of Delhi.
At the event, Gupta emphasized the government's welfare-focused initiatives, including affordable canteens for the needy and digitalization of services. Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar praised the metro network as essential for Delhi, reflecting on its evolution from a dream to a major urban transport solution.
