Demolition Drive Sparks Controversy in Uttam Nagar

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Sunday demolished a section of a house in Uttam Nagar, claiming it encroached on a public drain. Officials stated that 105 meters of land were cleared as part of a broader anti-encroachment initiative, which recently targeted illegal structures in Rajouri Garden.

The house, built over a drain, was deemed a flood risk during monsoon seasons, prompting the demolition without prior notice due to MCD policies. Bulldozers and a team of laborers removed at least four feet of unauthorized construction, according to a civic body representative.

The operation, which followed the death of a 26-year-old man in a clash over a water balloon during Holi celebrations, drew ire from residents. Locals demanded action against the perpetrators, as videos of the demolition circulated, showing heavy machinery dismantling the structure under police supervision.
