A significant fire in Glasgow's city center severely impacted Scottish train services on Monday, as firefighters battled to extinguish the flames that ravaged a four-story building close to the busiest railway station in Scotland. Glasgow Central Station was shuttered, causing significant travel disruptions.
The fire originated Sunday afternoon in a vape shop on Union Street, adjacent to the station. The inferno consumed the building, with flames seen bursting through windows and from the dome-capped roof. This 1851 structure collapsed overnight, its facade the only remaining element. Paul's Sweeney comparison to Britain's World War II Blitz highlights the devastation.
Despite the severe damage, no injuries were reported, according to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. Witnesses expressed shock over the iconic building's loss. Multiple businesses, including a cafe, fish and chip shop, and hair salon, were destroyed. Sexy Coffee confirmed its shop's destruction but pledged to rebuild.
