A tragic incident struck Roop Nagar, north Delhi, as a 60-foot overbridge collapsed, resulting in the death of a woman. Responding swiftly, the Delhi government has set up a three-member committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collapse.
The Irrigation and Flood Control Minister, Parvesh Sahib Singh, announced the initiation of a comprehensive safety audit for all foot overbridges across the city. The bridge in question, constructed 33 years ago near Mother Dairy, had reportedly deteriorated significantly over time and was deemed unsafe after a March 2025 inspection.
Preliminary assessments indicate structural deterioration as the possible cause, yet the investigation will delve deeper into the exact issues. The area remains cordoned off to avert further risks, as officials work diligently to determine responsibility and implement necessary actions.
