China Braces for Dual Threats of Flooding and Drought

China is preparing for severe flooding and drought conditions across different regions this year. Significant flood events are expected in the north, while the southwest and areas along the Yangtze River may face droughts. The Ministry of Water Resources has warned of these climate challenges starting from April.

China is set to confront significant weather challenges this year, with severe flooding and drought predicted to affect several regions, according to state broadcaster CCTV.

The Ministry of Water Resources reports that the flood season, commencing April 1, is expected to bring heightened flooding to normally arid northern areas, while typhoons may venture northward into inland regions.

Key areas at risk include parts of the Pearl River Delta, Fujian, and Zhejiang. Concurrently, from June to August, droughts are anticipated in the middle and lower Yangtze River regions and northern Xinjiang due to high temperatures and scant rainfall.
