False Alarm: Retracting the Brazil Earthquake Alert

Reuters has issued a retraction of an earlier report of a magnitude 6.01 earthquake in Brazil. The initial story originated from an earthquake alert published by the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ).

GFZ quickly pulled the alert, citing that such notifications could be the result of errors, such as duplicate events, quarry blasts, or non-existent seismic activities, rather than actual tectonic movements.

In light of these developments, Reuters confirmed that it will not be issuing any successor alerts or replacements for the original article.
