Herbalife India has collaborated with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras to launch the Herbalife–IIT Madras Centre of Excellence, a pioneering facility focused on plant cell fermentation technology. Located at IIT Madras Research Park, this centre is India's first exclusive plant cell-based fermentation research venue.

The initiative, funded via Herbalife India's CSR program, aspires to enhance R&D, innovation, and entrepreneurship in sustainable herbal biomass production. It will integrate advanced cultivation systems with sophisticated processing techniques to create a hub for skill development, industry partnerships, and innovative product development.

Scheduled to commence operations in June 2026, this Centre of Excellence is set to transform India's role in the global bio-based manufacturing sector, particularly in sustainable healthcare products, while strengthening industry-academia collaborations and reducing import dependencies through indigenous technologies.
