Libya's Migrant Crisis: Tragic Recovery of Bodies on Shores

In recent days, at least 17 bodies believed to be migrants have been found near Zuwara, west of Libya's capital Tripoli. Medics have buried 14 bodies, with one identified Bangladeshi national returned to his family. Libya remains a key transit route for migrants since 2011.

In a somber discovery, medics have recovered at least 17 bodies from the shores of Zuwara, a coastal town west of Libya's capital, Tripoli. The Emergency Medicine and Support Center reports that these individuals are believed to be migrants.

The health ministry stated that 14 of the bodies have been buried according to protocols, with one identified as a Bangladeshi national who was claimed by his family in Tripoli. The center released photos on Facebook showing the somber process undertaken by the medics.

Since the 2011 NATO-backed uprising that ousted Muammar Gaddafi, Libya has become a significant transit point for migrants escaping conflict and poverty, attempting to reach Europe via perilous desert and Mediterranean routes.
