The Meteorological Centre here issued an alert on Wednesday forecasting light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds across several districts of Uttarakhand during the next 24 to 48 hours. The weather department predicted winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour. It specifically warned of hailstorms and heavy showers in the hilly districts of Dehradun, Tehri, Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Pithoragarh, and Nainital. ''We expect light rainfall across the state over the next 48 hours. Thunderstorms and lightning are likely in most districts on April 30,'' MeT Director C S Tomar said. Tomar added that while the intensity might vary, light rain activity will likely persist across the region till May 5. He noted that hilly areas remain under specific watch for hailstorm activity during this period. The state administration has advised farmers and residents to remain cautious. Authorities urged people to stay indoors during bad weather and instructed drivers to exercise extreme care on mountain roads. According to the weekly forecast, lightning and thunder are likely to affect most areas except Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar, where the impact may be minimal after May 2.
