A severe storm claimed the lives of two individuals, including a child, and left four others injured over the past two days in Tripura, according to an official report on Friday. The storm inflicted widespread damage on standing crops and disrupted power lines throughout the state.
State Project Director of Disaster Management, Sanat Kumar Das, confirmed that a five-year-old child died and his brother suffered injuries when their mud-wall house collapsed in Radhanagar. Additionally, a man in Longtarai Valley was struck by lightning and succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.
Officials reported that almost 4,000 homes were damaged, with 180 huts destroyed. Interim relief funds amounting to Rs 79.59 lakh have been distributed. Temporary relief camps offered shelter to affected families, but most residents have now returned home. Restoration of power infrastructure is ongoing, as heavy rain and wind continued in some areas.
