The landscape of science and technology in India has experienced a revolutionary change over the last ten years, largely due to policy decisions promoted by the government. These policies included opening sectors like space and nuclear energy to private companies, as disclosed by Union minister Jitendra Singh this Monday.
Minister Singh noted that such strategic steps have carved out novel opportunities for start-ups and industries. This has allowed India to utilize its large human resource pool effectively and fortified its global standing as an innovation leader. Of particular note, India's contribution to the world's most cited scientific research publications has surged, indicating a rise in both scholarly quality and impact.
Speaking at the 56th Foundation Day of the Department of Science and Technology (DST) celebrated at the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) Auditorium, the minister urged scientific institutions to enhance their communication with stakeholders. According to him, increased visibility and outreach are crucial for partnership attraction and societal impact. Ultimately, he insists that India needs sustained reforms and robust institutional structures to continue shaping its economic growth and securing global leadership in science and technology.
