Omar Abdullah Approves Major Waste Management Overhaul in Srinagar

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has greenlit an 800 TPD Integrated Solid Waste Management Project at Achan, aimed at bolstering waste management infrastructure in Srinagar. The project, valued at Rs 361 crore, seeks to enhance sanitation, reduce pollution, and support sustainable urban growth amid escalating population demands.

In a bid to revolutionize waste management practices, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has given the nod for an 800 TPD Integrated Solid Waste Management Project in Achan. The initiative was unveiled during the 6th Council of Ministers meeting, aiming to modernize Srinagar’s waste processing and disposal systems.

The project, valued at Rs 361 crore, is designed to upgrade the city's capacity to process municipal solid waste through advanced methods of collection, segregation, treatment, and disposal. Officials state that this development will significantly enhance sanitation standards, curb environmental pollution, and foster cleaner living conditions in urban areas.

With an eye on the future, the Achan facility is also poised to align with broader urban planning and environmental sustainability goals. As Srinagar faces rapid urbanization and population growth, this project is seen as a vital component of the city's long-term waste management framework.
