The business climate index plummeted to minus 28.4 from March's minus 19.3, indicating acute pessimism regarding current conditions and future outlooks.

Klaus Wohlrabe of Ifo attributes the downturn to geopolitical uncertainties, fragile supply chains, and increased financing costs. Additionally, 9.2% of companies reported material constraints, a notable rise from about 1% over the past two years, while the percentage of firms citing insufficient orders remained steady at 43.8%.
