Delhi Gears Up for Monsoon: MCD's Coordinated Drainage Strategy

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) held an inter-departmental meeting to discuss preparations for the incoming monsoon. Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar emphasized the importance of coordination among departments to tackle waterlogging. The meeting identified key drainage issues and planned joint inspections to ensure efficient desilting ahead of the rains.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is ramping up efforts for monsoon preparedness with an inter-departmental meeting chaired by Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar. Coordination between departments was underscored as crucial to addressing waterlogging challenges.

Officials highlighted the scale of the task, with Delhi possessing over 3,014 major drains, of which 793 fall under MCD's purview. Nearly 65% of desilting work is already complete. The plan involves identifying and resolving problems across 215 critical drains through scheduled joint inspections.

Commissioner Khirwar expressed confidence in the groundwork laid and called for strategic planning. He highlighted the need for field-level coordination and special measures at vulnerable points. Agencies like PWD, DJB, and others will contribute toward ensuring a problem-free monsoon season.
