The Delhi government has announced a detailed plan to tackle waterlogging during the monsoon season. On Saturday, officials revealed a 10-point Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) issued by the Public Works Department (PWD). This document outlines vital steps for traffic control, dewatering, and safeguarding public safety when heavy rains occur.
A key focus of the SOP is the management of dewatering pumps. These pumps will operate on auto mode where applicable, with continuous monitoring to detect potential issues such as vibrations, overheating, unusual noises, or leakages. There is a directive to maintain a fuel inventory adequate for at least 10 hours of uninterrupted operation.
In readiness for power outages, standby generators capable of at least 70% of the installed pump capacity must be on hand. Furthermore, the PWD has launched a precast RCC drainage project on the Narela-Bawana road, part of a larger drainage master plan aimed at providing a long-term solution to the city's waterlogging issues.
