France's Electrification Surge: A €10 Billion Commitment To Power Independence

France plans to double its domestic electricity production to 60% by 2030, aiming to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. President Macron signed an electrification pact with French firms, boosting nuclear and renewable energy efforts. This initiative will involve 6,000 companies and potentially create 600,000 jobs.

President Emmanuel Macron announced an ambitious plan on Tuesday aimed at transforming France's energy landscape, committing to double its share of domestically produced electricity by 2030. A national electrification pact, signed with major companies, sets the country on a path toward greater energy independence, focusing on nuclear and renewable sources.

The government's strategy involves significantly boosting state support to €10 billion annually until 2030. The initiative aims to reduce France's dependence on imported fossil fuels while bolstering electricity production across various sectors including transportation, heating, and industry.

Among the private sector's commitments, automaker Stellantis will invest over €1 billion in electric vehicle production at its Mulhouse plant, and EDF will allocate €240 million to expand electrification efforts. Power grid operators like RTE are set to lay 45,000 km of lines to enhance transmission and distribution capabilities by 2030.
