Rajasthan is currently battling a severe heatwave, as temperatures soared across the state. On Wednesday, Sri Ganganagar recorded a scorching 48.2 degrees Celsius, marking the highest temperature observed. Closely following were Pilani at 47 degrees Celsius, Bikaner at 46.6, and Phalodi at 46.2.
In Jaipur, the rising mercury hit 43.7 degrees Celsius, contributing to the widespread heatwave affecting all major cities in the region. According to the Meteorological Department, these extreme conditions are expected to persist for the next couple of days, maintaining temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius.
The advisory noted that areas within the Bikaner and Kota divisions, along with the Shekhawati region, may encounter temperatures nearing 47 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, temperatures in western Rajasthan's border areas could reach around 48 degrees Celsius by May 27 and 28.
An 'orange' alert has been issued, signaling expected severe heatwave conditions. However, relief could be on the horizon as a fresh western disturbance might lead to thunderstorms and rainfall starting May 28, with the most significant effect anticipated between May 29 and May 31.
These changes could result in a temperature dip of 2-3 degrees, offering temporary relief from the oppressive heat as dust storms, strong winds, and scattered showers sweep through parts of the state.
