Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to give the green light for Russia's construction of the first reactor of a new nuclear plant in Uzbekistan during talks with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on Thursday.

​Russian ​President Vladimir Putin ‌will hold ​talks with Uzbek President Shavkat ‌Mirziyoyev on Thursday and discuss a flagship nuclear power project ‌in Uzbekistan, a Kremlin aide ‌said on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters, aide Yuri Ushakov said Putin ⁠would give ​the ⁠green light for Russia's construction of ⁠the first reactor of a ​new nuclear plant in Uzbekistan, ⁠which will be the first of ⁠its ​kind in post-Soviet Central Asia.

The two leaders ⁠will meet in St Petersburg ⁠at ⁠Russia's annual economic forum.
