A magnitude 6.6 earthquake rattled the southern Philippine island of Mindanao on Monday, as reported by the state seismology agency Phivolcs. This seismic event occurred 164 kilometers southeast of Governor Generoso in Davao Oriental province, with a depth of 86 kilometers.

Phivolcs Director Teresito Bacolcol confirmed to DZMM radio that the quake originated along the Philippine Trench and clarified that it is unrelated to the recent magnitude 7.8 earthquake, which had its epicenter over 250 kilometers away.

The aftermath of last week's powerful tremor has been devastating, with the death toll climbing to 65 and 36 individuals still missing, according to the country's civil defense agency.
