ECA reveals several developments from CCDA-VIII conference in Addis Ababa

The 8th conference on Climate Change and Development in Africa starts in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa on August 28, 2019 and will continue till August 30.

The conference on Climate Change and Development in Africa (CCDA-VIII) mainly focuses on its pre-determined theme ‘Stepping Up Climate Action for Resilient Economies in Africa – a race we can (and must) win’. The conference is organized every year by the African Climate Policy Centre (ACPC), convenes each year under the auspices of the Climate for Development in Africa (ClimDev-Africa) Programme.

The conference is the outcome of joint efforts of the African Development Bank, the United Nation Economic Commission for Africa and African Union Commission including the government of Ethiopia. In a series of tweets, the United Nation Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) reveals that Climate Research for Development in Africa (CR4D) was unveiled to boost links between climate science research and climate information needs in support development planning in Africa.

ECA says, the Africa Climate Resilient Investment Facility (AFRI-RES) - a joint initiative of ECA, the World Bank, the African Union and African Development Bank (AfDB), which intends to strengthen capacity to plan, design and implement investments that are resilient climate variability and change in selected sectors. It reveals a new partnership with the New Climate Economy and World Resources Institute in implementing a programme to support key stakeholders to identify the opportunities for new growth and transition to low carbon and resilient and new climate economy.

ECA also calls herself a partner of the Africa Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) and NDCHub has been hoisted by the AfDB to provide coordinated support to member states with implementation of their NDCs.
