Volunteers will use Ambiente Europeo data collection forms as part of this program.  Why not volunteer to help #keepourseaplasticfree!

Earlier today, Ann Jenkins, Director of Asociación Playa Patrol, announced the beaches that will welcome volunteers at this event: Playa La Herradura and Marina Playa (La Herradura), Playa Puerta del Mar (Almuñécar), Playa de la Charca (Salobreña) and Playa Poniente (Motril).  Jenkins also shared the list of End Zone Sponsors that provide volunteers with a complimentary drink and snack after the beach clean up is completed.  “Thank you to Restaurante No. 20 (La Herradura), Restaurante y Bar El Arbol Blanco (Almuñécar), Chiringuito Flores (Salobreña) and Sunahra Beach Club (Motril) for hosting the local end zone.

The acting president of Mancomunidad de Municipios de la CostaTropical, María Eugenia Rufino, who hosted today's announcement, highlighted the importance of raising awareness and education for the environment.  "In our region there are many foreign residents that come from countries where environmental awareness is much more developed and we must positively adopt these actions to move forward", said Rufino who thanked the director of Playa Patrol, Ann Jenkins, and the whole team of Ocean Ambassadors and volunteers work that "have an impact on young people and children".

Since inception, Playa Patrol has been supported by Asociación de Chiringuitos de la Costa Tropical. Their President, Francisco Trujillo, said that they have been working with Playa Patrol because they thought it was “a magnificent project”. The beach bars have already subsidized 1,500 euros to Playa Patrol and Trujillo announced that shortly they will contribute another 500 euros to their work and that next year those funds may increase.

The President of the Port Authority of Motril, José García Fuentes, commented positively on their experience in working with Playa Patrol, not only during the recent information Session that they hosted, but also with its environmental awareness and education work locally. García Fuentes encouraged the residents of the entire region to participate in the beach clean up on September 22.

The Councilor of Beaches of the City of Motril, José Lemos, has thanked the fighting spirit of Ann Jenkins and all the Playa Patrol Ocean Ambassadors for laying the foundation on Costa Tropical to encourage environmental awareness and “leave our children a true paradise where they can live".

Each community has dedicated Playa Patrol Ocean Ambassadors busy finding Team Captains and Volunteers.  All Volunteers are required to register online in order to be assigned a cleanup zone and obtain complimentary drink and snack tickets.  Based on previous attendance, PLAYA PATROL anticipates 700+ volunteers will join the September event. Volunteers are required to bring their own gloves, bucket and empty water bottle to collect cigarette butts along with drinking water, sunscreen and a hat.

As always, the local town halls along with local garbage collection companies are involved in supporting the beach clean up activities. Financial support has been provided by Association of Costa Tropical Chiringuitos, Port Authority of Motril and Mancommunidad Costa Tropical.
