Jacksonville Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette is dealing with a right hamstring injury and his status for Sunday's AFC Championship Game rematch with the New England Patriots will likely be determined late in the week.
Fournette suffered the injury during the season-opening win against the New York Giants.
"I talked to (the doctors) and they said it was a minor hamstring injury," Jaguars coach Doug Marrone said at Monday's press conference. "We have a lot of time and we will see where it is. If he is ready to go, we will ease him back in there. We will see how he feels. I think a lot of it depends on that."
There was no telling how Fournette was feeling Monday as he declined to speak to reporters when approached.
Fournette rushed for 41 yards on nine carries against the Giants before exiting. He is expected to lobby hard to get on the field.
Marrone, though, might not be listening too closely.
"If the doc clears a player, then I listen to the player," Marrone said. "If the doc doesn't clear a player, I don't even address it with the player."
T.J. Yeldon (51 yards on 14 carries) handled most of the workload the rest of the way against the Giants. He'll be the starter if Fournette can't play.
In last year's AFC title game, Fournette rushed 24 times for 76 yards and a touchdown in the Jaguars' 24-20 loss to the Patriots.
