Los Angeles Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa will miss Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills, coach Anthony Lynn told reporters on Thursday.

Bosa is dealing with a left foot injury that also caused him to miss the season-opening loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Bosa saw a foot specialist earlier this week and the diagnosis wasn't changed -- bone bruises in the foot.

"It's always good that it wasn't something worse," Lynn said. "But we'd love to have him back. But we're not going to put him out there before he's ready."

The possibility remains that Bosa will miss additional games as there currently is no firm timeline for his return.

"He's going to be out this week for sure, but we figured that," Lynn said. "But we're going to be really cautious with this injury because we don't want it to linger. So, when he's healthy, we'll get him back out there."

Bosa, the No. 3 overall pick of the 2016 draft out of Ohio State, sustained the initial injury on Aug. 7 in 11-on-11 team drills. He did not play in any preseason games.

Bosa led the Chargers with 12.5 sacks last season while starting every game. He played in 12 games and made 11 starts as a rookie when he registered 10.5 sacks.
