Committee approves Seattle hockey arena renovations

A Seattle city council committee has unanimously approved plans for a $700 million renovation of KeyArena, the latest development in the city's bid to land an NHL expansion franchise.

The Select Committee on Civic Arenas voted 7-0 on Friday to approve redevelopment plans for the city-owned building. The full city council is expected to take a final vote on the matter on Sept. 24.

The redevelopment of the arena is a privately funded project spearheaded by Oak View Group.

Seattle Hockey Partners, the group hoping to land the franchise, will make a formal presentation to the NHL Board of Governor's executive committee on Oct. 2 in New York.
